Rusty and His Saddle

A cowboy's most valuable partner is their horse; they work together caring for livestock, checking fences, and much more. The saddle they share must fit them both as they ride the trail.

In this kids' tale, Rusty the Ranch Horse's saddle looks a little different than the others. Rusty and his cowboy live by, "The Code of the West," showing that character far outweighs what things look like. The Code is included in this book as the cowdog helps to highlight an attribute from it on each page.

Rusty and His Saddle is written in rhyme and illustrated in bold watercolor.

Ride along with Rusty and his cowboy for a day of work and lessons as they lead by example and live by the code.

Created by a mother and daughter team, western children's book author, Mary Fichtner and her daughter and illustrator, artist Roslan Fichtner, under the big skies of Wyoming in collaboration with Rusty the Ranch Horse.
